Much of this text came from the St John's website.
It is with overwhelming sadness that we share the news of the passing of our drum corps sister Kelly Kenny (McHutchion). Kelly passed away on Saturday, June 10, 2023 after a short illness.
Kelly joined St. John's in 1972 as a member of the colour guard and was part of the spectacular rifle line of 1976. In 1977 and '78 Kelly marched with Seneca Optimists in Toronto where she also met her future husband Kim.
Kelly and Kim later moved their family to Brantford. Here Kelly became involved with many community organizations including the Girl Guides of Canada and the Brantford Gardening club. She was also a member of the Catholic Women's Auxiliary at St. Basil's Church as well as being involved with the charity Little Boxes that raises funds for cancer care.
In 1996 Kelly reconnected with her drum corps roots in Brantford where she became a member of the St. John's Board of Directors.
In 2000 Kelly became a member of the Preston Scout House Band colour guard, continuing her long commitment to the activity and the people she knew through it.
Kelly joined the Alumni Committee in 2012 and was instrumental in the planning and execution of the 60thAnniversary weekend and many other Alumni activities.
Kelly's giving spirit, kindness and laughter will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
“Please know that Phil and I share you great sadness and sorrow in the loss of Kelly. Kelly was a lifetime friend, a much valued one ! ! ! In our 50 years plus of friendship "I can honestly say" she was my one and only constant in life. Even before the Internet, distanced by miles and continents that often separated us, she made staying connected a priority. THAT is just who Kelly was in life, the most loyal, compassionate and genuinely caring human we knew "THE BEST OF THE BEST" We loved and adored Kelly beyond measure. Kelly was a gift, her infectious smile and laugh will long radiate within those that knew her best and loved her to infinity and beyond. Life is just not going to be the same without her and no one knows that more than you "her Beautiful Family' her everything. I/We will always cherish ALL of our memories of happier times together but non more than the last couple of wonderful visits I was fortunate to enjoy comforting/encouraging her at her bedside while at Juravinski. I will hold all close to my vest daily moving forward. Without question, I know she will be looking out for us all from heaven as she did on earth as will we return in thoughts ten-fold. With that, we hope these messages of reflection and support bring comfort to your family as you navigate these challenging times. Do know you have a village to lean on today/tomorrow/always Kim, Sarah, Adam. Our hearts are broken, no words to comprehend why "The Good Lord" saw need to take her from us far too soon and so painfully. I can only trust God had greater purpose for our angel. RIP Dear Kelly, fly freely with the angels my love, until we meet again xo Much Love & Sincerest of Condolences your way Deb & Phil McArthur ”
